There has been a summit named CICA (more about the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia here) from May 18th to 22nd in Shanghai Bund Area, hosted by the Chinese President Mr. Xi with a lot of "important" guests like Mr Putin (Russian President), Mr Hoshani (Iranian President), Ban Ki Moon (UN President) and much more.

The conference itself caused problems like traffic jam, but they also didn`t want to be blamed for tolerate prostitution,, so because of that, all "naughty places" in Shanghai have been under "yellow allert".

Anyone else heard about the beginning of a crackdown for National day? Heard from a Manhattan Viet girl they're getting hassled by the police already.

Shanghai Nightlife Guide (Monday, 26 May 2014 18:38)

@John: Red Rope getting more and more "unpopular" here in Shanghai, but as I know, the Surf Club Sauna still offer that service, but the last check we did for that was around 6 month ago, so I hope it is still "on the menue". 999 was also popular for that, no idea why they not offer red rope any more. If you are a vip member of our page, just write a e-mail and I will ask some of my sauna contacts and arrange it for you.

Wish you will find the service (and don`t forget to share your experience with us later),

I wonder if everything really is back to normal. I went to Ba Li Ya this evening and on my way to the door I met several girls saying "No, no" and walking away. I stopped and pretending to look for an adress and then walked away. Then I saw a guy with a radio, but not one of the normal guys guarding the place. Looked more like the police to me. Hope there was not a crask down and that anyone of you were caught with your pants down...

1066: was there tonight. No success. Sign says, they're doing maintenance works for 6days (dated may 18)
999: Dito, light inside, but door locked. didn't ask so.

    Mike (Sunday, 25 May 2014 15:47)

I went to 1066 and Smart Hero today around 6:30pm: both were clearly shut despite the report here (there was a sign on the door at 1066 and also in the elevator at Smart Hero, but I can't read Chinese so not sure what was on that). Maybe I went at the wrong time? Has anyone actually visited them today?

@Jack: would be nice, if you can send me some information to: ;-)
By the way, I just got a confirmation form Tang Dynasty, 1066 and Smart Hero Sauna, that they will open again on monday now, so seems the information about 25th is right. So let the dry times pass by,

Shanghai Nightlife Guide (Friday, 23 May 2014 15:17)

@Jack: thank you for the information, I just contacted a sauna manager I know and he did not confirm yet. He told me, he has to wait for a "permission" to reopen and till now not get any advise for that, even he also heard about 25th could be the day. So we all hope for that.

    Enjoy the dry city,

    Ccf91 (Wednesday, 21 May 2014 13:56)

I was in shanghai earlier in May, and sauna 1600 was open. It was a great recommendation by you guys. Maybe this place is closed for the past two weeks. I am in town until Sunday. If anyone know any place to have some fun, let us know. When is the KTV party you are organizing? Sounds like fun.

everything is closed as this site indicates, even the girls bars, fortunately I have made some friends so its actually an opportunity to hook up and go out or stay in with a friend cause they dont have to work, but generally its shut down and just not good luck if you are here now

    James (Saturday, 17 May 2014 09:09)

Yeap, dead dead buddy and I thought it would be hilarious to go up to the cops and ask them which ones were still open...but then we thought they might not find as much humour in that as we did : )

    Matt (Saturday, 17 May 2014 07:04)

Even hooters in pudong is 'closed for renovation'
I chose a bad time to visit Shanghai.

    Guest (Wednesday, 14 May 2014 23:24)

Thanks for this confirmation. Walked arround yesterday and went to 3 of my usual places, all locked down. A colleague in the office mentioned that there is a political meeting planned because all the checks in the metro are more strict.

    W (Wednesday, 14 May 2014 10:59)

Shanghai is full of cops. They are checking everything at night. Though there is no harassment they are asking for ID and questioning anything suspicious especially hookers. So its better to lie LOW
    till this month end

    Ttoft (Tuesday, 13 May 2014 17:05)

I checked out Jiu long sauna. Was strange. Front desk offered menu of accupressure 360rmb oil massage ~380 for 45 min. Set up had lockers and towel boys waiting room but no lineup or fishbowl. Room was mirrored w/ red light. Girl had lame massage skills so I figured must be full service place. But when I tried to push further girl resisted even though she was wearing short shorts and tank top showing lots of cleavage. In the end I didn't get a HE of any sort. Just some heavy groping and petting. Which she was fine with. She seemed friendly in attitude too. Just scared when I went to lift her shirt or pull her shorts lower.

almost all "barber shops / pink shops" closed (april 7, 2010)

who ever visit shanghai the last year, will remember the funny "barber shops" with red light inside and a lot of girls there waiting for customers need a special haircut ;-). if you will come to shanghai now, you will find nearly no shops like that any more. seems "a better life, better city" (related to the expo 2010 in shanghai) also means a life without barber shops. still very less survide, but you will not found the red light any more, so they try to hide, but if a lot of girls inside and no place for haircut, than could be you are right (find the last places as a member of our page)

crackdown in manhattan bar (march 27, 2010)

if you visit the manhattan bar last week, you would be surprised not to find any thai and phillipine girls there. seems the police checked the bar for prostitutes, so a lot of girls did not go there this day. someone told us, after the police left (2 am), the girls come back. but it was only one day, so no need to be afraid to spend lonesome nights now....

table dance rules changed (march 18, 2010)

as a result of the "expo-cleaning-the.-city-process", also the rules for table dancing in shanghai changed now. it is not allowed to dance in sexy "swimwear" any more. now the girls will wear very normal clothes, also the dancing pole-dance is not allowed any more. so you will see very normal girls dancing on the bar in very normal clothes.... funny to watch, but not really hot.

new rules for bring guests to your hotel room (february 21, 2010)

now because of a new goverment guideline in shangai, it will be very hard to bring a guest to your hotel room. seems there is a rule, that the hotel security will not allowed you to bring a guest without register her to your room. for the registration, the guest has to arrive with you before 11 pm and also has to show a passport. every not registered guest will be stopped by the guards. we guess, only the western hotels will follow this rules, but we are sure, it will be nearly impossible to book a chinese small hotel in the expo-time (last year in "olympic-time", no small chinese hotel was allowed to rent out rooms to guest without chinese passport).

new german shanghai Nightlife forum (february 3, 2010)

could be you allready realized, that all the shanghai forum will not publish to hot news or comments, so one german guy who did not want to accept this any more just installed a definitly "free" forum, which will not be censored. Just check out this link: Schanghai Forum (only german language at the moment). you will also find a lot of usefull informations for expats new in shanghai.

zabata`s club and the prostitutes (january 8, 2010)

Shanghai Prostitutes Zabata`s
Zabata Prostitute Rules

seems zabata`s don`t like the image as a pick up bar too much, but we are not really sure, if they are serious about that. or why you can find a post there with the following text: "Zabata`s Mexican Cantina does not sponsor prostitutes at our establishment. If you are a prostitute please refrain from entering our garden or restaurant. If you are unsure whether or not you are a prostitute, please ask one of our friendly security guards to sort it out for you. Thanks, El Patron". We are looking forward to see, how the "friendly security guards" will figure out that ;-)

tong ren lu closed (december 15, 2009)

after some year great nightlife entertainment highlight, the tong ren lu bar building has been closed this weekend. seems this is also part of the strategy: "clean the city for the expo". now an institution for fun and hot nights has been disapeared. there is a romer, that a new, but similar location will be open in ju le lu underground soon, but seems till now not a lot of bar owners trust the new location. but we will try to update you about the relocation process and we will try to tell you where you can find your favorate bar now. check here from time to time: tong ren lu bars moved where?

da tong mill bar opening nearly finished (april 15, 2010)

the new hotspot in the underground (da tong mill), especial for the expo, to hide all the "dirty" business in the underground now almost finished. Only two bars and one club still under construction, but you will find a lot of different bars there, starting from big and small girls bars, up to japanese bars, some classic bars, but also a chinese dance club and a gay club and gay bar. and all together in a posh and clean environment, so now should be the right time to visit it. unfortunately it seems that this news did not travel up to all the visitors of the "old" tong ren lu, so now only very less customers there. but we are sure, it will change soon, because the place is exactly what shanghai needs!
