There has been a summit named CICA (more about the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia here) from May 18th to 22nd in Shanghai Bund Area, hosted by the Chinese President Mr. Xi with a lot of "important" guests like Mr Putin (Russian President), Mr Hoshani (Iranian President), Ban Ki Moon (UN President) and much more.
The conference itself caused problems like traffic jam, but they also didn`t want to be blamed for tolerate prostitution,, so because of that, all "naughty places" in Shanghai have been under "yellow allert".
who ever visit shanghai the last year, will remember the funny "barber shops" with red light inside and a lot of girls there waiting for customers need a special haircut ;-). if you will come to shanghai now, you will find nearly no shops like that any more. seems "a better life, better city" (related to the expo 2010 in shanghai) also means a life without barber shops. still very less survide, but you will not found the red light any more, so they try to hide, but if a lot of girls inside and no place for haircut, than could be you are right (find the last places as a member of our page)
if you visit the manhattan bar last week, you would be surprised not to find any thai and phillipine girls there. seems the police checked the bar for prostitutes, so a lot of girls did not go there this day. someone told us, after the police left (2 am), the girls come back. but it was only one day, so no need to be afraid to spend lonesome nights now....
as a result of the "expo-cleaning-the.-city-process", also the rules for table dancing in shanghai changed now. it is not allowed to dance in sexy "swimwear" any more. now the girls will wear very normal clothes, also the dancing pole-dance is not allowed any more. so you will see very normal girls dancing on the bar in very normal clothes.... funny to watch, but not really hot.
now because of a new goverment guideline in shangai, it will be very hard to bring a guest to your hotel room. seems there is a rule, that the hotel security will not allowed you to bring a guest without register her to your room. for the registration, the guest has to arrive with you before 11 pm and also has to show a passport. every not registered guest will be stopped by the guards. we guess, only the western hotels will follow this rules, but we are sure, it will be nearly impossible to book a chinese small hotel in the expo-time (last year in "olympic-time", no small chinese hotel was allowed to rent out rooms to guest without chinese passport).
could be you allready realized, that all the shanghai forum will not publish to hot news or comments, so one german guy who did not want to accept this any more just installed a definitly "free" forum, which will not be censored. Just check out this link: Schanghai Forum (only german language at the moment). you will also find a lot of usefull informations for expats new in shanghai.
seems zabata`s don`t like the image as a pick up bar too much, but we are not really sure, if they are serious about that. or why you can find a post there with the following text: "Zabata`s Mexican Cantina does not sponsor prostitutes at our establishment. If you are a prostitute please refrain from entering our garden or restaurant. If you are unsure whether or not you are a prostitute, please ask one of our friendly security guards to sort it out for you. Thanks, El Patron". We are looking forward to see, how the "friendly security guards" will figure out that ;-)
after some year great nightlife entertainment highlight, the tong ren lu bar building has been closed this weekend. seems this is also part of the strategy: "clean the city for the expo". now an institution for fun and hot nights has been disapeared. there is a romer, that a new, but similar location will be open in ju le lu underground soon, but seems till now not a lot of bar owners trust the new location. but we will try to update you about the relocation process and we will try to tell you where you can find your favorate bar now. check here from time to time: tong ren lu bars moved where?
the new hotspot in the underground (da tong mill), especial for the expo, to hide all the "dirty" business in the underground now almost finished. Only two bars and one club still under construction, but you will find a lot of different bars there, starting from big and small girls bars, up to japanese bars, some classic bars, but also a chinese dance club and a gay club and gay bar. and all together in a posh and clean environment, so now should be the right time to visit it. unfortunately it seems that this news did not travel up to all the visitors of the "old" tong ren lu, so now only very less customers there. but we are sure, it will change soon, because the place is exactly what shanghai needs!
